More consideration needed' as Bexley parents call for more accessible playgrounds
Briefly

James Taylor, Director of Strategy at disability equality charity Scope, states, "Every child should have an equal right to play. Yet many disabled children can't enjoy their local playground because it isn't designed for them, leaving them and their families divided and excluded. It isn't right that disabled children are shut out."
According to Census data from 2021, 15.4 percent of people living in Bexley are disabled. This statistic highlights the critical need for accessible playgrounds catering to this demographic.
As part of UK disability charity Scope's Let's Play Fair campaign, campaigners surveyed local playgrounds to provide feedback on their accessibility, showing a community effort towards improving play facilities.
Despite Bexley having 34 playgrounds, none were included in Scope's survey, highlighting a significant oversight in assessing the accessibility of local recreational spots for disabled children.
