Mittens, a Maine Coon cat, accidentally became a frequent flier when her cage was missed during loading, leading her to unknowingly travel from Christchurch to Melbourne and back three times in a day. After a three-hour wait for her at the airport, owner Margo Neas discovered that Mittens had stayed aboard the plane during its return to New Zealand. Thankfully, the cat was well cared for by the Air New Zealand crew, who turned on the cargo hold heat. After the mishap, Mittens was safely transported to Melbourne with Neas feeling relieved and happy.
Air New Zealand said it would reimburse all costs associated with Mittens' travel and has apologized for the distress caused. We'll work closely with our ground handler in Melbourne to ensure this doesn't happen again.
Mittens had lost weight but was otherwise unharmed. She basically just ran into my arms and just snuggled up in here and just did the biggest cuddles of all time.
