Missing Galway swimmers: Search resumes for local woman as tributes paid to Johnny Duhan, renowned songwriter of 'The Voyage'

The alarm was raised yesterday when the woman, aged in her thirties, and a man, in his seventies, were declared missing after going for a swim off the same beach. The man who died in the drowning accident has been named as well-known singer and songwriter Johnny Duhan, whose body was recovered on Tuesday morning.

A heavy fog has descended making visibility very poor at high tide this afternoon. Led by gardaí in cooperation with the Coast Guard, RNLI crews, and hundreds of volunteers, an intense search of the sea and coastline continues.

While the focus of the search remains in the Silverstrand- Rusheen Bay area, boats have now widened their field of search. Local boat-owners from as far away as Mayo and Clare have joined the search, despite foggy conditions.
