Security Minister Dan Jarvis has reiterated that the UK will not tolerate intimidation or harassment by foreign governments following complaints from British Sikhs about being targeted by or on behalf of the Indian government. In his correspondence with the Sikh Federation, he emphasized that any foreign attempts to harass UK citizens will be met with a resolute defense of their safety and rights, asserting that the UK uses all available resources, including intelligence agencies and police, to protect individuals from such threats.
Jarvis underscored the seriousness with which the UK approaches the findings of the Canadian investigations into the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He stated that the UK has full confidence in Canada’s judicial system and urged the Indian government to cooperate with investigations, asserting that respect for sovereignty and rule of law is paramount. He clarified, "We take the findings from the Canadian investigations very seriously... Any attempt by any foreign power to intimidate, harass, or harm individuals or communities in the UK will not be tolerated."
