As millions prepare for the Lunar New Year, railway stations and airports in China are witnessing a surge in travelers. This annual migration is anticipated to set records, with predictions of nine billion interprovincial passenger trips over a 40-day period encompassing the festivities. With a heightened demand for transport, the Ministry of Transport forecasts 510 million train trips and 90 million air trips. To accommodate this influx, China Railways has increased train services, anticipating the main peak in travel preceding the holiday as workers head home to reunite with family.
During the traditional 40-day period that runs before, during and after the holidays, some nine billion interprovincial passenger trips, on all forms of transport combined, are expected to be made.
The Ministry of Transport said it expects 510 million train trips and 90 million air trips during the period, indicating a record migration season for the Chinese New Year.
