Mikaela Shiffrin revealed she underwent unexpected abdominal surgery to treat a puncture wound from a giant slalom crash, hindering her competing at the World Cup.
In her Instagram post, Shiffrin expressed her disappointment at missing the downhill race, stating, 'Biggest bummer right now is that I can't get up to the finish to watch my teammates race.'
Despite a successful surgery, Shiffrin has no timetable for her return to racing, having suffered a deep puncture during a crash while leading a GS race.
Shiffrin mentioned the surgery was needed to address complications from the wound, stating she had 'a little cavity deeper than the wound tract filled with old hematoma.'
