"For us, it has to be a linkage between a cease-fire and the release of hostages, it has been our principle position from the beginning and it still remains," said Robert Wood, the deputy US ambassador to the United Nations.
"We have to ensure that negotiations lead to the release of hostages before a cease-fire can be considered viable," Wood added, emphasizing the US stance as unique but resolute in the Security Council.
Ambassador Danny Danon stated that the draft resolution was "nothing short of betrayal," reflecting Israel's dissatisfaction with perceived biases from the UN towards its interests during the ongoing conflict.
The US was the only member to vote against the motion, highlighting its steadfastness in linking a cease-fire with hostage negotiations amidst prevailing international opinions favoring immediate cease-fires.
