Microsoft de-borks USB printing in Windows 11
Briefly

Months after releasing a patch that caused some printers to print random gibberish, Microsoft is rolling out update KB5053657 for Windows 11 users. This new update, intended to fix issues with USB-connected dual-mode printers affected by their driver, aims to stop the unintended printing of network commands and other unusual characters. Initially identified in January, this glitch persisted despite being noted in subsequent updates. Alongside fixing printer issues, Microsoft also addressed a separate Copilot application problem through a separate process.
The patch, KB5053657, aims to rectify issues caused by a previous Microsoft update that led to users' printers producing gibberish text and random data.
Microsoft's recent update has addressed a longstanding issue with USB-connected dual-mode printers that were printing random IPP-related headers since January.
