Taoiseach Mr. Martin addressed questions regarding Dáil's recess after Storm Éowyn while participating in Auschwitz’s 80th anniversary of liberation for Holocaust Remembrance Day. He reaffirmed Ireland's foreign policy supporting Palestinian statehood, previously condemning Israeli actions in Gaza as genocidal. Critics from Israel have accused his government of fostering antisemitism. Mr. Martin defended Ireland's position, stating the importance of representation at the commemorative event to counter false accusations against Ireland, indicating its commitment to acknowledging historical atrocities like the Holocaust.
I think it was important for Ireland to be represented there given a lot of false accusations about antisemitism in Ireland and so forth.
They are war crimes. It's genocidal.
The Holocaust was an important event that we must remember and learn from to prevent further atrocities.
The Dáil did not sit for more than a week following my appointment as Taoiseach, during which the severe weather event occurred.
