Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to Donald Trump's rebranding of the Gulf of Mexico by proposing to rename the western U.S. as America Mexicana, calling Trump's suggestion absurd.

Sheinbaum emphasized the Gulf of Mexico's legitimacy, stating, 'Obviously, the Gulf of Mexico is recognized by the United Nations,' contrasting it with Trump's controversial proposals.

In a playful tone, Sheinbaum remarked, 'For the next one, why don't we call this Mexican America? It sounds nice, doesn't it? Right?' highlighting historical ties.

She continued, 'I believe President Trump was misinformed...because I think they told him that Felipe Calderon and Garcia Luna were still governing Mexico, but no... the people govern.'
