"A deepfake is a video created using AI and face-swapping technology to make it seem as though a certain person is saying something in their own voice when they are not. The Fine Gael nominee for the presidency featured in the bogus video posted on social media by scammers which purported to show her encouraging internet users to invest in a fraudulent fund."
""Scammers are relentless and continuously evolve their tactics to try to evade detection, which is why we're constantly developing new ways to make it harder for scammers to deceive others - including using facial recognition technology," the spokesperson said. "It's against our policies to run ads that use public figures in a deceptive way to try to scam people, and we remove these types of ads when we become aware of them - as we have done in this case.""
A deepfake video created with AI face-swapping falsely showed the Fine Gael presidential nominee encouraging people to invest in a fraudulent fund. The bogus video was posted on social media by scammers. Meta confirmed the page that posted the deepfake was taken down for policy violations and said scammers continuously evolve tactics, prompting use of facial recognition and ad enforcement. The nominee's campaign urged people to disregard the video and contacted Meta to remove it. Bank of Ireland warned the public about the sophisticated financial crime and said the videos are highly convincing and designed to lure unsuspecting individuals.
