Meet Danielle David, The Woman Reclaiming The Story Of Rum
Briefly

Images of tropical islands, pirates, and party cocktails might spring to mind when you think of rum. But how often do you think about the history of the people behind it? For Danielle David, rum is more than just a drink - it's a rich story of rebellion, heritage, and reclaiming narratives others have long repackaged.
I wanted to step into this leadership space and champion Black women," says Danielle, co-founder of Kromanti Rum, with a determination that's hard to miss. In an industry that's historically celebrated colonial legacies, Danielle is on a mission to rewrite the narrative, reclaiming the deep, complex history of rum for her people.
Once you see it, you can't unsee it," she says, referencing the problematic way rum brands have often celebrated slavers and colonial figures. Henry Morgan - immortalised as Captain Morgan - a 16th Welsh privateer and plantation owner, is a perfect example of this.
For Danielle, this is more than just a beverage; it's a personal mission to tell the stories of her ancestors the way they deserve to be told.
