Manhunt for criminal who fled scene of crash that left friend fighting for life and injured pedestrian
"The incident has left the criminal's friend, who was a passenger in the car, in a critical condition and he is currently being treated for his injuries in Beaumont Hospital. A female pedestrian aged in her early 20s, who was struck by the car as she walked on the footpath, is currently being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. The crash happened on the L5313 at Loreto Wood in Cavan at 6.45pm yesterday and gardai are appealing for witnesses."
"It's understood that the on-the-run driver of the car was released from prison last year. He served a six-year sentence after he admitted being the getaway driver for an armed robbery at a post office in which a female staff member was terrorised by his two accomplices. Since getting out of jail he had previously come to the attention of gardai in Co Cavan for a dangerous driving incident in which he later failed a drugs test just a few weeks ago."
A collision on the L5313 at Loreto Wood in Cavan at 6.45pm left a passenger critically injured and a female pedestrian in her early 20s also hospitalised. The injured passenger is being treated in Beaumont Hospital and the pedestrian is at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. The driver fled the scene and is the subject of a major manhunt by gardai, who searched nearby fields and used thermal imaging. The driver was released from prison last year after serving six years and has a long history of serious drug addiction; blood samples allegedly showing cocaine are under analysis.
