Gretta McCullough (64) was walking with her husband when without warning she was struck violently from behind with the blade of the seven-inch knife by Darragh Quigley (26), a schizophrenic who had stopped taking his medication."

An attacker travelled to Dublin City Centre with a plan to hunt someone before randomly plunging a seven-inch knife through the neck of a 64-year-old grandmother who had come to see the Christmas lights. The victim, Gretta McCullough, was walking with her husband when she was struck violently from behind. The attacker was identified as 26-year-old Darragh Quigley, a schizophrenic who had stopped taking his medication. The attack was unprovoked and random. Quigley was arrested, tried, and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
