"On Tuesday, a man - aged in his late 20s - was arrested by gardai at Dublin Airport and was questioned on suspicion of Daniel's murder. The suspect had been living in Brazil in recent years however he was arrested for immigration violations in December and issued with deportation proceedings. He was removed from Brazil and arrived in Ireland on a flight from Lisbon where he was met with by gardai."
"Daniel was never reported missing and his disappearance and death only came to light last August when officials raised concerns about his wellbeing on foot of social welfare inquiries. Tusla and gardaí were contacted and an investigation was launched. Last September, the little boy's remains were recovered from a waste site off the Portrane Road in Donabate where he had been buried in a shallow grave."
Daniel's remains were recovered from a waste site in Donabate last September after he went missing more than four years earlier. He was last seen alive in 2021 at age three while living in the Gallery Apartments in Donabate. Daniel was never reported missing and concerns about his wellbeing emerged during social welfare inquiries, prompting contact with Tusla and gardaí and the launch of an investigation. A woman in her 20s was detained in December and released without charge. A man in his late 20s was deported from Brazil to Ireland, arrested at Dublin Airport, held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and subsequently released without charge; a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The case was upgraded to a homicide investigation in December, granting additional investigative powers.
