A man in his late 30s remains in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital after sustaining a life-threatening head injury in Ballaghdareen in the early hours of January 1. Gardaí believe the injury resulted from a punch followed by the man’s head hitting the ground. Emergency services were alerted to Barrack Street around 1am and the victim was found seriously injured and transported to Beaumont, a specialist centre for critical head injuries. Investigators have spoken to several witnesses, are reviewing CCTV, and have established an incident room with a Senior Investigation Officer appointed.
