Five young people under 25 died in a two-vehicle collision on the Ardee Road (L3168) at Gibstown, on the outskirts of Dundalk, shortly after 9pm. All five deceased were travelling in a Volkswagen Golf and are understood to be from Carrickmacross, Drumconrath and Scotland. A sixth occupant of the Golf, a male, is in hospital with serious injuries. A male and female in a Toyota Land Cruiser were treated in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Family Liaison Officers have been appointed and An Garda Síochána is conducting a technical and forensic collision examination while keeping families updated. The Taoiseach described being 'numbed and shocked' by the tragedy.
