Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Avanti West Coast plan to strike on New Year's Eve and January 2, due to disputes over rest day working. As a result, Avanti West Coast urges customers to avoid travel on these dates as services will be significantly affected.
During the strike days, there will be a limited timetable with minimal service: one train an hour between London Euston and major cities like Birmingham, Manchester, and Preston, with some routes like North Wales and Edinburgh completely cut off.
Travelers are informed to plan ahead as trains are expected to be busy, with operating hours restricted—first train around 8 am and the last before 5 pm. Avanti advises checking the details of their last train home.
