Negotiations between Lime and Brent Council are ongoing as the firm faces a potential ban for not addressing safety concerns about its dockless bikes. The council has warned that if the bikes are not removed by the designated date, the ban will be enforced.
Cllr Muhammed Butt expressed cautious optimism about Lime's willingness to create mandatory parking bays. However, he emphasized that rebuilding trust with residents will be a significant challenge for the operator, especially in light of ongoing safety concerns.
Despite fewer than 60 reports registered in the complaints system regarding Lime bikes over the past year, Brent Council believes this number does not accurately reflect the extent of issues, as many complaints come through other channels and remain uncounted.
The council urges Lime to take responsibility for improving bike security to prevent tampering and dangerous riding, underscoring the operator's need to genuinely address the concerns raised by residents.
