The upcoming venue is believed to be the first new lesbian-themed bar to launch in The Castro in decades, named after LGBTQ+ activist Rikki Streicher.
Co-owner Thoe reflected on the difficulty of trying to find a venue in the city which streams women's sports, emphasizing the need for such a space.
Thoe stated, "Women's sports are growing very rapidly, and I want to watch the sports," highlighting a demand for visibility in women's sporting events.
Yergovich and Thoe met via the non-profit LGBTQ+ organization San Francisco Spikes, which reflects a strong community effort behind launching Rikki's.
