Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison stated, 'the council’s processes for billing leaseholders are simply not fit for purpose' and emphasized the need for a complete overhaul.
After an investigation, it was revealed that 23 leaseholders were wrongly charged over £132,000 for works done in their homes, with the council admitting fault.
The council failed to follow procedures protecting leaseholders from charges incurred over 18 months prior, which resulted in refunding leaseholders due to administrative errors.
Cllr Cawley-Harrison noted that seven projects since 2015 had similar issues and called for an end to improper billing practices for leaseholder works.
