Los Angeles' classical music radio station KUSC will merge with San Francisco's KDFC this summer to form Classical California. This merger involves a unified audio feed and shared on-air staff, while maintaining local broadcasts from both cities. President James Muhammad emphasized that the merger is intended to expand resources rather than cut costs, aiming to streamline operations and enhance service offerings. The network also utilizes streaming to engage younger audiences, ensuring broad access to diverse classical music programming across California.
We have world-class on-air talent and what we'd like is for our entire network to be able to have access to that talent.
The merger is not being driven by cost-cutting, but will help provide resources for expansion.
