A couple's home in Santa Rosa suffered extensive damage from a landslide after heavy rain on Tuesday, potentially beyond repair. The home had previously been rebuilt after the Tubbs Fire destroyed it in 2017. During the landslide, homeowner Robert Boyd's wife was trapped inside, but firefighters successfully rescued her without injury. The house had survived previous fire threats but was particularly susceptible to landslides due to being situated on a burned area. This incident marks a troubling pattern of disasters affecting the same family.
"We were here for the Tubbs Fire in 2017. Lost the house at that point. Took us almost two years to the day to rebuild," says homeowner Robert Boyd.
"It was difficult to understand what she was saying. She was obviously panicking. She didn't know if she could get out. Um... it was just scary, very scary."
