Mark Morton, the guitarist of Lamb of God, has revealed his upcoming solo album titled 'Without the Pain,' set for release on April 11. The lead single 'Brother' features collaboration with country artists Cody Jinks and Travis Denning. The song melds Morton’s acoustic guitar work with Jinks' vocals, eventually transitioning into a more electric sound. Morton describes 'Brother' as a reflection on family separation, drawing from personal and universal experiences. The album also includes several guest vocalists and showcases a shift from heavy metal to a Southern rock style, featuring original compositions and covers.
On a long bus ride, somewhere in the middle of a Lamb of God tour, I scribbled some lyrics down in my notebook. Sometime after, having paired them with a simple chord progression, I presented my idea to Cody Jinks and Travis Denning during a writing session in Nashville. Three hours later, we walked out with 'Brother.'
'Brother' is a deeply personal song that speaks directly to the theme of family separation and estrangement. I have learned through observation and my own lived experience that it is a universal and all too common phenomenon.
