Local officials revealed that the Santa Ynez Reservoir had been offline for repairs, which left a critical water source empty amid devastating wildfires in the Pacific Palisades.
LA Department of Water and Power officials stated that the unprecedented demand for water during the fire made it impossible to maintain adequate pressure to hydrants at higher elevations.
Ex-DWP general manager Martin Adams indicated that while a full Santa Ynez Reservoir might have helped somewhat, it would likely not have prevented the drop in water pressure essential for fighting the blaze.
Storm chaser Colin McCarthy attributed the disastrous conditions to a combination of high winds, dry weather, and a lack of mitigation efforts by local officials.
