Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region declared a state of emergency as oil continues to pollute the coastline following a tanker collision in the Black Sea.
The spill, resulting from the collision of two Russian oil tankers, has contaminated about 55 km of shoreline, prompting the mobilization of over 7,500 responders.
Governor Veniamin Kondratiev highlighted the challenge of the situation, stating that while some oil might remain submerged, rising temperatures cause oil to surface and wash onto beaches.
Kondratiev announced a systematic approach, dividing the coastline into 44 sectors to enhance cleanup efforts and facilitate community involvement in detecting and managing the oil spill.
