Kodiak has made its first driverless truck deliveries to customer Atlas Energy | TechCrunch

Kodiak Robotics has made a significant move in the autonomous vehicle space by handing over two driverless trucks to Atlas Energy Solutions. This marks Kodiak's first commercial launch, allowing Atlas to operate these trucks independently in the off-road environment of the Permian Basin. The company has reported successful deliveries without a human safety driver, showcasing trust in the technology. Kodiak aims for a future model where customers own the vehicles, contrasting with competitors that operate their services. This partnership is pivotal for Kodiak's strategy in selling autonomous driving solutions rather than managing logistics themselves.

This is the first time, as far as we're aware, that the customer is owning and operating the driverless vehicle, instead of the AV company.

Kodiak and others don't want to run their own shipping operations in the long run, but rather focus on selling the self-driving technology.
