Kithure Kindiki has been sworn in as Kenya's new deputy president after a court lifted orders barring his inauguration, following legal challenges from ousted Deputy President Gachagua.
The high court ruled the deputy president role should not remain vacant, thus lifting the stay on Kindiki's inauguration after Gachagua had filed over 30 legal challenges.
Kindiki's appointment as deputy president comes amidst extensive political upheaval, after Gachagua was impeached on charges of constitutional violations and ethnic incitement.
President Ruto's administration is attempting to stabilize East Africa's largest economy, following protests and discontent over tax increases by creating a unity government.
