During his confirmation hearing, FBI Director nominee Kash Patel highlighted his experience as a victim of alleged government overreach as a key qualification for his role. Patel, who previously served under Trump and criticized the Biden DOJ, responded to Senator Grassley’s comments on apparent anti-Republican bias within the DOJ. Grassley pointed out issues of FBI overreach that personally affected Patel, particularly referencing the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, suggesting a need for reform to prevent such misconduct in the future.
This may be one of the scenarios that most uniquely qualifies me to take command at the FBI. Having been the victim of government overreach and a weaponized system of justice and law enforcement, I know what it feels like to have the full weight of the United States government used against you.
Senator Chuck Grassley stated that the FBI and Justice Department weaponized law enforcement towards partisan ends, which has affected you personally, and raised concerns about misconduct.
