Justice Minister says resignation of high-profile TD Brian Stanley over 'kangaroo court' shows Sinn Fein not fit for government

Mr. Stanley described his internal party inquiry as an unfair process, stating, 'This inquiry has been shown to have lacked any shred of credibility, not least due to a significant abuse of process, resembling a type of kangaroo court.' He highlighted that his resignation followed a complaint against him and perceived significant bias in the proceedings.

Mary Lou McDonald’s party faces a crisis with Mr. Stanley's resignation, as Ms. McEntee emphasized the need for better structures, stating, 'The resignations of two TDs this week have further shown that the party lacks appropriate structures and safeguards.'

MEP Lynn Boylan expressed disappointment over the situation, criticizing Mr. Stanley for only sharing a half story, and addressing the party's tarnished image due to allegations involving former party members.

Dáíl's Public Accounts Committee chairman Mr. Stanley announced, 'After 40 years of service to Sinn Féin, I will now continue working as an Independent Republican TD on behalf of constituents, who have always treated me in a fair and respectful manner.'
