Jean McConville's family ready to lodge legal action against Sinn Fein once Legacy Act is overturned
Briefly

Jean McConville, a victim of IRA violence, was abducted and killed in 1972. Her family, particularly her daughter Helen and son-in-law Seamus, are pursuing civil action against Sinn Fein, hindered by the Legacy Act, which blocks such claims. Their lawyer has prepared the necessary legal documentation, hopeful for swift action following a pledge from the new UK Labour government to repeal the Legacy Act. Public donations exceeding €20,000 have supported their efforts, stressed by the urgency for justice, reflecting on the slow legal process.
"We will be using the same legislation in our own action that some other unsavoury characters might also use," Mr McKendry told the Sunday Independent.
"The UK Labour government pledged to overturn the Legacy Act and that seems to now be in motion. Trying to take this legal action, it has been an infuriatingly slow process."
"All of our paperwork is fully prepared to be lodged as soon as this law is overturned, which there is a commitment to do by the Labour government."
"Justice delayed is justice denied. Are they waiting for all of Jean McConville's children to die before they allow this case to go to court?"
