Jay Johnston has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol Riots, after pleading guilty. He was accused of serious offenses, including felony obstruction of officers during civil disorder.
Johnston's attorney argued that the government's portrayal of his client was exaggerated, suggesting that his high-profile status as a Hollywood actor led to an unfair focus on his actions during the riots.
Filmed with a stolen police shield and involved in pushing an officer at the Capitol, Johnston faced multiple charges which culminated in a guilty plea for obstructing law enforcement.
In addition to his prison sentence, Johnston has been ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution for his role in the chaotic events surrounding January 6.
