'It restored my faith in humanity' - Hundreds attend funeral of woman with no next of kin after plea from Carlow undertaker
Briefly

Rory Healy's social media post urged the local community to give Mary a proper farewell, as she had no next of kin or many visitors due to her circumstances. He wanted to ensure that the nearly 90-year-old would not be sent off alone, stressing the importance of community support in honoring her life and contributions to Carlow.
Describing the turnout at Mary's funeral, Rory expressed that he was overwhelmed by the 300 attendees, especially when considering the usual morning mass attendance of only 40 or 50 people. He was particularly moved to see students from the local school and people from all walks of life coming together in a show of support for Mary.
Rory stated, "When I walked into the church and saw what was there waiting for poor Mary, my heart filled up. I didn't expect to see that number of people. I thought maybe a dozen people would show up because I only made the appeal late last night. But I was overwhelmed and bowled over when I saw what was there."
Reflecting on the event, Rory concluded that the turnout "certainly restored my faith in humanity," emphasizing how the community came together to honor someone they barely knew, highlighting the importance of compassion and support for one another.
