Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced a unanimous approval for a plan aimed at doubling the Israeli population in the occupied Golan Heights.
Netanyahu emphasized the importance of strengthening the Golan Heights as a means of strengthening Israel, asserting that the region will be held onto and cultivated further.
The new plan allocates over 40 million shekels ($11m) to boost the settler population, despite the area's legal status under international law.
Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh reported that this approval is perceived by Israel as timely, especially considering the anticipated return of Donald Trump as US president.
