Investigators witnessed the angler unloading burlap sacks of fish from a trawler at Pier 45. Tailing him to a restaurant, they saw him attempting to flee and hide fish.
A false wall was found on the trawler, concealing fillets of salmon alongside 2,365 pounds of halibut that had not been declared for retail sale.
The CDFW officials managed to sell the seized fish the next day and donated the proceeds to the Fish and Game Preservation Fund.
No criminal charges have yet been filed, but a complaint has been submitted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office regarding the incident.
