Three miners are feared dead as rescuers worked to reach nine men trapped inside a coal mine in Assam. Authorities reported spotting bodies but faced challenges accessing them.
The mine flooded when the miners likely hit an internal water channel, causing water to pour in from a nearby disused mine, trapping them 300 feet below ground.
Assam's Chief Minister confirmed that divers would assist the rescue efforts, as water levels inside the mine have risen to nearly 100 feet, complicating the operation.
The incident highlights the dangers of illegal 'rat hole' mining in India's northeastern regions, where unsafe conditions lead to frequent accidents, such as a similar incident in 2019.
