I'm a New Yorker who went to Utah's Silicon Slopes for the first time. 9 things surprised me.
Briefly

Traveling from Denver to Salt Lake City by train provided stunning landscapes that surpassed other trips. The scenic journey showcased the transition from snowy forests to red rock canyons. Unlike previous Amtrak rides on a Viewliner, this trip offered a double-decker Superliner with a dedicated observation car for sightseeing. In terms of accommodation, Salt Lake City's limited luxury hotel options led to a stay at the Grand America Hotel, a five-star establishment known for its elegance and history of hosting celebrities, which further enhanced the overall experience.
I was shocked that Salt Lake City didn’t have many luxury hotels...I selected the Grand America Hotel - the city's first five-star hotel built in 2001.
I was surprised and excited to find a communal car on the top floor designated for sightseeing since the Viewliner did not have one.
The sights between Colorado and Utah were on another level. I rode through Rocky Mountain National Park and watched the snow-capped forest landscape transition into red rocks and canyons.
For $340 a night, I couldn't believe how luxurious my room was. I spent one night in an executive suite with a king-sized bed.
