Icelandair has received its first-ever Airbus aircraft, breaking its all-Boeing fleet tradition. The A321neoLR will replace aging Boeing 757s by 2027, as it offers 30% better fuel efficiency per seat.
CEO Bogi Nils Bogason clarified that the decision to acquire Airbus aircraft was unrelated to Boeing issues, as the campaign for Airbus began in 2022, long before production delays surfaced.
The Boeing 757 has been an integral part of Icelandair's operations since 1990, effectively connecting Iceland with North America and Europe due to its operational efficiency.
With the A321LR's introduction, Icelandair seizes the chance to modernize its fleet and replace the outdated 757, which Boeing has not replaced since its discontinuation in 2004.
