Rimmer described the moment of collision as a 'very sudden jolt' while flying at 37,000 feet, stating there was 'no warning' before the incident.
Despite the horror of the incident, Rimmer remained focused on his family, stating, 'It was hard not to keep thinking about how badly it might end and how it would affect my family.'
Following the collision, Rimmer noted, 'We had no means of communicating with the ground - no phones and the WiFi hadn't been activated,' which heightened the tension.
Rimmer's recount of the damage showed shock as he stated, 'We looked out at the left hand side of the airplane and saw a jagged edge where the winglet had been sheared off.'
