'I miss you every day Ash' - Ryan Casey posts tribute to Ashling Murphy on fourth anniversary of her death
"One of the hardest things we all have to do in life is to try and turn the page to the next chapter, knowing that someone who meant so much to you won't be in it. This does not mean they won't be there to guide you, as there are things death can never touch, such as the bond, connection and love we had for each other."
"A commemorative walk along the banks of the Grand Canal to Ms Murphy's memorial shrine will take place today, beginning at the monument erected in memory of Fiona Pender, who went missing in 1996. Members of the public, clubs, communities and other organisations around the country have been invited to take part in their own walks, runs or other events today, or on another date that suits."
Ashling Murphy was 23 when she was killed while running along the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly on 12 January 2022. In November 2023, 33-year-old Jozef Puska was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of her murder. Murphy worked as an inspirational primary school teacher at Durrow National School and was a talented musician and sportswoman. A mass to mark her fourth anniversary was held at St Brigid's Church, Mountbolus. A commemorative walk to her memorial shrine along the Grand Canal will take place beginning at the monument for Fiona Pender. The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund reported more than €150,000 donated to organisations since its establishment in November 2022 and thanked individuals and groups who honoured her.
