""I can't sell this house we absolutely are trapped.""
Syed Alam and his wife Sahela bought a new-build flat at Brooklime House in Homerton, Hackney for £350,000 and have endured damp, mould and water ingress for more than ten years. Syed raised concerns about water ingress during a 2015 viewing with regeneration consultants, and Hackney Council, as freeholder, assured repairs before the family moved in. Council-organised repairs allegedly worsened conditions, leaving holes in living-room walls that Syed covered with cereal boxes. The couple contacted their MP and Citizens Advice, fear they cannot sell, and report worsening mental health and their children’s asthma.
