"It's not just Germany, the whole world is currently divided when it comes to the Middle East conflict," says Meron Mendel. He emphasizes the difficulty in fostering dialogue amid rising tensions and differing perspectives.
Nan Goldin expressed her deep moral outrage regarding the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, using her art exhibition as a powerful platform for advocacy. "I decided to use this exhibition as a platform to amplify my position of moral outrage at the genocide in Gaza and Lebanon," she stated at the opening.
Goldin noted that protests by Palestinians are often met with heavy-handed police responses, despite Germany being home to the largest Palestinian diaspora in Europe. She questioned, "Are you afraid to hear this, Germany?" reflecting on the challenges faced by Palestinian voices in protests.
Reflecting on her background, Goldin stated, "I was brought up knowing about the Nazi Holocaust. What I see in Gaza reminds me of the pogroms that my grandparents escaped," highlighting her personal connection to historical trauma.
