The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens has sealed off part of its grounds and called in experts after the death of nine monkeys, including endangered species.
"Government departments will speed up autopsy and toxicological testing," indicated Hong Kong's leader, emphasizing the urgency of identifying the cause of death for the deceased monkeys.
The initial cause of death for the eight monkeys remains unknown, sparking concerns about potential zoonotic diseases, as highlighted by PETA Asia's Jason Baker.
"Monkeys in captivity are often exposed to pathogens that cause diseases that can be transmitted to humans," warned Baker, referencing the broader implications of the situation.
