Historic Bay Area record store has to pony up millions to stay in business
Briefly

The unassuming beige facade may not catch the eye of a driver speeding down San Pablo, but the building is an essential archive of art and cultural history.
If it goes up for sale, we don't really know what's going to happen. The price could go up or down. We don't know who would buy it, and our destinies would be up in the air.
They need to commit to purchasing the building or else potentially lose out to an unknown buyer who could raise their collective rent, or worse: tear down the structure and build condos.
The property is owned by a trust consisting of Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz's children. Strachwitz died in 2023, but prior to his death, he wrote into his will that Harrod Blank has first right of refusal to buy the property at market value.
