Hilton has partnered with Be My Eyes to enhance accessibility for blind and low-vision guests through a free app that connects users with sighted volunteers. This service allows users to receive guidance via video calls, helping them navigate hotel environments and perform tasks in real-time.
Users can access the app's service directory to connect with dedicated Hilton teams by selecting the 'hotels' option and their specific brand, enabling assistance with tasks like adjusting the thermostat or moving through the hotel. The initiative currently spans several Hilton brands, including Waldorf Astoria and DoubleTree, but is limited to locations in the U.S. and Canada.
The collaboration initially began last year to aid in the refinement of Be My AI's language model, leveraging GPT-4 technology to improve object recognition within Hilton properties. It aims to create a more seamless and supportive environment for visually impaired guests by providing reliable, real-time assistance.
In addition to live assistance, Be My Eyes employs AI to extract text from menus and toiletry bottles, giving users the ability to comprehend written information that impacts their hotel stay. This incorporation of technology highlights a forward-thinking approach to accessibility in hospitality.
