An evening Iryo high-speed train from Málaga to Madrid derailed near Córdoba at 19:45, jumped onto the opposite track, and collided head-on with a Renfe train from Madrid to Huelva. Around 300 passengers were on the Iryo service and about 200 on the Renfe train. Transport minister Oscar Puente updated the death toll to 21 after midnight and indicated more victims could be confirmed. Seventy-five passengers were hospitalized, including 15 with serious injuries. The crash occurred in a difficult-to-reach area near Adamuz where locals brought blankets and water. The cause remains unknown despite recent track renovations and a train under four years old.
