Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has signed an order to restore the name Fort Bragg, a military base initially renamed Fort Liberty in 2023. This change aims to honor World War II hero Pfc. Roland L. Bragg while aligning with a law prohibiting names honoring Confederate leaders. The decision reflects a broader effort to recognize exceptional service and sacrifice within military history. Although Fort Liberty was intended as a new identity, the name Fort Bragg continued to endure in popular usage, even after its official reinvention under the Biden administration.
In a video he posted on X announcing that he was renaming the base, Hegseth said: "That's right. Bragg is back!"
