On Monday Ukraine's secret service (SBU) charged Krillov in absentia as he was accused of being "responsible for the mass use of banned chemical weapons." This charge signifies strong accusations against him underlining his controversial role in the conflict. The SBU alleged that around 5,000 chemical weapons were utilized during his command, and just two months prior he had been sanctioned by the UK for employing toxic choking agents like chloropicrin on the battlefield in Ukraine.
Russian investigators reported that Lt Gen Igor Krillov was killed in an explosion when a bomb hidden in his scooter detonated. His death occurred near a building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow, a mere four miles from the Kremlin. Both he and his assistant died instantly from the blast which was set off using a remote device. The incident has raised eyebrows regarding security and the implications of targeted assassinations within the ongoing conflict.
