The teenager at the centre of the controversy has confirmed he was 16 at the time of the texts. He has sought an apology from Ms McDonald over the "disastrous handling" of his case.
Ms McDonald said: "It is very important that the record of the Dáil is accurate, so of course it will be corrected." She emphasized that the young man deserves a full, unequivocal apology for the unacceptable behavior he experienced.
Earlier, Taoiseach Simon Harris accused the Sinn Féin leader of being "silent" on the calls from the teenager at the centre of the matter to apologise over the handling of the incident.
A Sinn Féin spokesperson this afternoon said... Mr Ó Donnghaile has acknowledged that he quit Sinn Féin last year after the party received complaints that he had sent inappropriate texts to a teenage party member.
