Doherty expressed his displeasure at being excluded from the squad, feeling disrespected after Hallgrimsson opted for Omobamidele over him at right-back during the loss to Greece.
Hallgrimsson acknowledged the emotions surrounding exclusion, stating, "All players should feel they should be playing... I would be unhappy if somebody thinks they didn't deserve to play."
Discussing squad selections, Hallgrimsson pointed out, "We want to explore other players in that position... We know exactly what he can give us, so we don't need to see him or test him."
Hallgrimsson also mentioned recalling Shane Duffy due to recent performances, stating, "I felt... especially last camp... there were some areas we can improve. He's got a role to play."
